St. George the Great Martyr Orthodox Church is a parish of the Orthodox Church in America, initially set up in 1979 as a mission. We are the only Orthodox parish in the entire Rio Grande Valley and we welcome Orthodox Christians of all backgrounds. Indeed, we are a very diverse community, of converts of several ethnic backgrounds (from Mexico, Canada, southern America, Asia, etc.) and also of "cradle Orthodox" who are Greeks, Palestinians, Romanians, Russians, Ukrainians, Turks, etc. Our services are mostly in English, although certain prayers are said in the many second languages of our parish members--Spanish, Greek, Arabic, Romanian, Slavonic, etc.

For more information about us (our history, our clergy, etc.) please see "our parish" header.

Our parish is located in deep south Texas, very close to Mexico.  We are in Pharr (pronounced "far") and we are part of the greater McAllen Metroplitan area in the Rio Grande Valley (known locally as "the valley").

From the north, take US 281/I-69C and exit on Cage Blvd. (Bus 281) in Pharr. Continue south (approximately 2 miles) through town until you come to traffic light at Sam Houston. Turn right (west) on Sam Houston, and continue about 1/2 mile. The church will be on the right.

From the east or west, take I-2 exit 144 toward Buss-83/Jackson Rd, and turn south on Jackson. In 1/2 mile, turn left (east) on W. Sam Houston. The church will be on your left in 1/2 mile.
