To the Faithful of St. George the Great-martyr Orthodox Church
May God bless you!
Archpriest Antonio Perdomo has been home for only a few days. Realistically it will take some time before he is able to focus solely on the parish.
Fr Antonio will develop a schedule for Reader’s Services. However, in the interim at the present moment Reader’s Services will be postponed. Hidalgo County presently has the highest rate of increase of incidences of Coronavirus in Texas. Furthermore, last Saturday, June 20th, 2020 there were people present at the Divine Liturgy that had symptoms of coronavirus. In the meantime others present at the service also have developed these symptoms. In order to prevent further spread of symptoms of Covid-19 from parishioner to parishioner, Reader’s Services will be postponed for 14 days. At the end of that time period, if no further spread is identified within the parish community, Archpriest Antonio will inform the parish when Reader’s Services will resume. Due to the timing of a) Archpriest Antonio’s convalescence, b) the fast rise of incidences of coronavirus in Hidalgo County, and c) symptoms spreading among parishioners it will be wise to curtail gatherings at St. George the Great-martyr until the end of this observation period.
In our Diocese of the South we are discouraging our parishioners from going from parish to parish in an effort to restrict outbreaks of coronavirus infection. This is a simple protocol to keep our communities and our parishioners safe.
As Father Antonio regains his strength he will be available for general direction in the parish and for teaching. In the interim we encourage anyone that can to offer support to the Perdomo family including but not limited to meal preparation and shopping for supplies.
Transmission of online services takes place almost every day of the week; these are accessible on the https://www.stseraphim.org/ website.
